Increasing the appeal of your blog is a challenging goal to achieve. However, there are many different steps that you can take to make this possible. Every blog will come with a unique set of user expectations that must be met. Finding the message that resonates deeply with your visitors can lead them, over time, to love your blogs content.
How a blog got started is an important thing to look at. Was the blog created due to a person’s passion for a certain topic or was a more logical approach taken?
Passion
A passionate blogger can view their audience as a reflection of their own interests. They don’t initially cater to any measurement per se instead there brand is to write and develop content that they enjoy. This person has found that their ideas are liked by others. This situation can lead to finding more subtle ways to further develop the content. They might start to enjoy that their voice is being heard and seek to further influence others.
At some point they might decide to learn about the users themselves. By using online tools they can start to visualize what kind of person is interacting with their blog. The bigger question is why that type of person finds their content compelling. But they have already found an audience and might be hesitant to drastically change the way they do things. They have found that they like the idea of being read and want more of it.
Logic
Another type of blogger can approach the topic more logically, in which they look for a potential audience to speak to first. To create compelling content, they should have at least some interest in the topic being investigated. This blogger seeks a niche that they believe can be more effectively communicated with than others. This person hasn’t started a blog yet instead they have researched the audience first.
They have read other blogs in their proposed field. By noting gaps in coverage where other currently popular blogs fail to reach, they decide there is an opportunity. From the ground up they will develop the blog to serve these needs as a way to get their foot in the door.
Both blogger types have started out differently, but eventually come to have the same goal, to increase user engagement. These different viewpoints can be illustrated by looking at how each can approach a similar set of circumstances.
Analysis
Analytics will play an important role in increasing user engagement for both bloggers. But the key phrase here is analysis. Just collecting statistics is not enough. The more successful blogger will correctly interpret what all the numbers mean. There are many ways to gather statistics from the blog, which can be used to create catchy content.
The passionate blogger might find that they are surprised that certain posts have received increased attention. They might not have expected a particular subject to resonate with their audience. They can use this information to create more spin off content that parallels the subject. If they don’t want to write more about the particular topic they could reach out to others currently writing about the topic. This can be an interesting way to start and network with other bloggers. Having other bloggers’ content on their site might lead to new users getting a chance to read their blog and hopefully they enjoy it. The greater diversity of viewers who have a reason to see the blog content, the more likely new visitors will come back.
The more logical blogger will approach statistical measure with a different outlook. They will be looking for keywords that they can develop content around. Using analytic programs, such as Ahrefs, BuzzSumo and EssayRepublic they can begin to develop list of themes that are being searched. Instead of only trying to write about a specific set of keywords they should approach them as guides. The majority of online searches are unique and cannot be easily quantified. But collating a group of keywords, one can get an idea of what an audience is interested in. Using this group to develop content in a unique voice, but slanted towards what people what to know about can help get their blog noticed in search engines. Getting initial visitors is the main goal.
For their differences, both blogger types will find that doing similar activities will help each of them equally.
Goals
An important way to increase user’s acceptance is constant content. Users will have more reason to return to the blog if they can come to expect a certain schedule of postings will make. Instead of randomly posting, every blogger needs to determine how much they can post and when. Then they need to stick to that schedule. When users discover there is an ongoing flow of information to be read or seen they will be more willing to invest time in the blog. The more content a blogger can drip out, the more reasons someone will likely come back to see what’s new. Both bloggers should directly engage their users, creating a community feel. Taking time to respond individually to users’ questions or statements in the comment section is a good start. If people feel that they have some sort of connection to the writer they have a higher chance of developing a real interest in what the person is saying. This connects to the last idea which is open on the personal side of the blogger. By allowing users to virtually meet you through your bio they can become more interested in the blog itself.
There are different ways to approach the blogging process. Each has its own set of challenges when trying to grow the number of users or their engagement. At the same time there are universal values which will help make a visitor become a fan to any blog. Instead of just reacting to a blog’s content the users will actively seek its view as part of their required reading.
